H. WON TAI CHI INSTITUTE
FAQ & Tips
Anyone Alive Who Has...?: Are there any people who are still alive that have learned Tai Chi Chuan from Yang, Cheng-fu? Or are there any Yang family members who are carrying on the traditional family style?
Answer to the first question: Yes, one person. That person is Yang, Zhen-Ji who is the second son of Yang, Cheng-Fu. What about Yang, Zhen-Duo? He was was very young when his father passed away; therefore, he had no chance of learning the family style directly from his father.
Second: Currently in Hong Kong, the three daughters of Grandmaster Yang, Sau-Chung, the eldest son of Yang, Chung-Fu, are still carrying on the family tradition, along with his three disciples. The daughters' names are Yang, Tai-Yee, Ma-Lee, & Yee-Li.
As for Yang, Zhen-Ji & his younger brothers, they didn't have enough time with their father or the eldest brother to learn the more profound principles of Tai Chi Chuan & the internal power. Moreover, the eldest brother Yang Sau-Chung (known as Zhen-Ming to his brothers) & his youngers brothers were separated after their father's death; the family moved back home, & Yang Sau-Chung remained in Guangzhou. Many years later, Yang Sau-Chung managed to locate the Yang Zhen-Ji in Tanjin through the help of Fu Zhong-Wen in Shanghai. In 1948, Yang Sau-Chung & Zhen-Ji finally managed to meet in Guangzhou. However, in 1949, Yang Sau-Chung had to escape to Hong Kong because of the Chinese communists, leaving his younger brothers in China, never to see them again.
